M. Night Shyamalan Is Making a Sequel to ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Split’, And The Internet Went Bonkers
This could be his best idea since “The Sixth Sense.”
M. Night Shyamalan did something pretty bold with Split, his 2016 film that was good enough to be hailed as a comeback.
Spoiler alert: Split was a sequel to the 2000 film Unbreakable hiding inside what appeared to be a standalone thriller. It was a meta-twist, really, in an otherwise straightforward flick.
Today, Shyamalan surprised fans yet again with a tweet that made it clear he isn’t done with the universe we now know is shared by Bruce Willis‘s possibly super-powered average guy David Dunn and James McAvoy’s multiple personality disorder-afflicted psychopath from Split.
My new film is the sequel to #Unbreakable AND #Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film.

In Unbreakable, Samuel L. Jackson played beautifully against type as Mr. Glass, a uniquely vulnerable supervillain to counter Dunn’s slowly awakening hero. And Shyamalan’s third film in this unexpected trilogy will be titled Glass. That’s right—Samuel L. is coming back.

There you go.
Shyamalan may have spent some time in the wilderness—so to speak—after turning out some disappointing clunkers like Lady in the Water, but it’s pretty tempting to say he’s back.
And with Samuel L. Jackson involved again, he’s loaded for bear. Take our money, now.
