Michael Fassbender Hunts Down a Creepy Serial Killer in Chilling Trailer For ‘The Snowman’

"It's Se7en meets Silence of the Lambs."

Swedish director Tomas Alfredson follows up his acclaimed English-language debut Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with a chilling Scandinavian-set thriller.

Based on the Norwegian crime novel of the same name, The Snowman follows detective Harry Hole, played by X-Men star Michael Fassbender, as he hunts down an elusive serial killer who strikes during snowfalls.

The snow-loving slasher–that’s one of his victims above- has a wicked penchant for decapitating people and later sending toying messages to police.

He also hurls snowballs at his victims and leaves snowmen behind at the scene of his crimes, which may have been creepier on the page than it is in the trailer.

Still, The Snowman—out October 20—promises a stylish thriller with a killer cast. Rebecca Ferguson, Chloë Sevigny, Charlotte Gainsbourg, J.K. Simmons, Val Kilmer and Toby Jones all likewise fall into the killer’s crosshairs. And people are already pumped, with horror-centric site Bloody Disgusting calling it “Se7en meets Silence of the Lambs.”

That’s quite a combo. Well, let’s hope this snowman is at least as scary as the carrot-nosed sociopath in Jack Frost
