The Sons of Anarchy Spinoff May Be Coming Sooner Than We Expected
We’re ready for it.
Back in August we learned that Kurt Sutter was creating a Sons of Anarchy spinoff that would focus on the Mayans Motorcycle Club.
But, as he told Entertainment Weekly, “I wanted to give it a couple years to breathe before we came back to do it. So none of that has gone away. We’ll see how the next couple years or at least the next year with [The Bastard Executioner] unfolds and then we’ll have to see.”
Luckily for us — and less luckily for Sutter — FX just canceled The Bastard Executioner after one season. It was precisely as terrible as its name, so, combined with low ratings, it’s no secret why that happened.
But that may be good news for those of us anticipating the Sons of Anarchy spinoff. Since The Bastard Executioner won’t be preoccupying Sutter’s time any longer, perhaps that means the spinoff will be moving along more quickly.
“The network is very hot on the Mayans project, and I won’t run that show,” Sutter told Deadline. “For me, this is about finding the right writer and the next thing I will be doing is sitting down and interviewing to find a Latino writer, someone who understands the world and the culture. I don’t want to just throw some white guy at it.”
We can’t wait to see what Sutter and his showrunner come up with.
