Celebrate Stanley Kubrick’s Legacy With 10 GIFs From His Greatest Films
The iconic director of ‘2001’, ‘A Clockwork Orange’ and ‘The Shining’ would have turned 88 today.
Legendary director Stanley Kubrick, who is considered one of the most influential filmmakers of all time, would have turned 88 today.
An unrivaled auteur from the outset, Kubrick explored themes of violence and sex in his earlier work, like The Killing (1956), Lolita (1962), and Dr. Strangelove (1964). After unprecedented success with 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), arguably his best and most important film, Kubrick followed up with a controversial trifecta of A Clockwork Orange (1971), The Shining (1980), and Full Metal Jacket (1987).
Although the director passed away in 1999 mere hours after finishing his final film, Eyes Wide Shut, his twisted, daring oeuvre continues to inspire the greats. Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and countless others cite Kubrick as an inspiration.
