‘Step Brothers’ Director Adam McKay Says a Sequel Could be on the Way
Time for another trip to the Catalina Wine Mixer.
They keep saying no, but we’re beginning to believe Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will one day give us a sequel to Step Brothers.
First, Ferrell admitted he and director McKay had come up with a plot for Step Brothers 2. Then McKay made it clear he won’t rule out a sequel.
Around the tenth anniversary of the movie’s premiere, Adam McKay had some interesting things to say to CinemaBlend. A sequel is “very possible in five years,” he said, “because I don’t think the Step Brothers idea gets worse the older these guys get.”
“We could all look at each other and go, ‘all right, let’s go do it,'” McKay said of himself, Ferrell, and co-star John C. Reilly. “A while ago I said, ‘No way we’re doing it,'” he continued, “But I thought about it. I was like, ‘Why am I saying that? We definitely could end up doing that.’ So who knows?”
If they do get off the stick, we have some idea what the story could be, according to Will Ferrell. He said they’d already cooked up “a whole story where John and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well.”
That sounds like more than enough to flesh out another movie. Especially if we get to attend the Catalina Wine Mixer again.
