Sunday NFL Taste Test: Chicken Nuggets

We put the top brands of chicken nuggets to the meaty test.

Sure, you’ve got the 116″ flat screen that hasn’t even been released yet, the speakers that have already caused your elderly neighbors to call the police, and the oversized couch made from the skin of only the cutest of baby seals, but have you thought about what’s really important: What snacks are you going to put on the table? We hit the supermarket and put our editors through a rigorous blind taste test of snack foods to help you decide what to bring home for the big game on Sunday. Check back every Friday throughout football season for a new snack-food face-off.

Brand: Banquet

Price: $3.99

Score: 3.29

Verdict: It seems that the bottom of the barrel doesn’t show “banquet” quality – let alone Football Sunday quality.

Comments: “This can’t be chicken.”

“The color is going to haunt me.”

“Soft and tasteless.”

Brand: Morning Star

Price: $3.99

Score: 5.88

Verdict: Pulling the old switcharoo, we swapped in some fake chicken. Only a few or our tasters caught on.

Comments: “Almost as good as McNuggets.”

“I would eat a lot of these”

“Nice consistency.”

And the winner is…

Brand: Tyson

Price: $3.50

Score: 6

Verdict: Coming in at a slightly more affordable price and a slightly higher score than the latter, Tyson is the Calvin Johnson of microwavable chicken.

Comments: “Monday Night Football taste – mmm.”

“Best of the bunch.”

“It’s the best. But still awful.”
