This Surfer Fought Off a Shark Mid-Surfing Competition, What Have You Even Done With Your Monday?

This shark was no match for Mick Fanning.

So, say you’re at the J-Bay Open, a surfing competition in South Africa that’s part of the Samsung Galaxy World Surf League Championship Tour. And say that you’re out in the water and a shark attacks you while you’re busting out all the cool surfing moves. What do you do? Scream? Pee yourself (it’s the ocean, so it’s cool, man)?

If you’re surfer Mick Fanning then you punch the shark. Yeah, you heard me: You punch that fucking shark right in the fucking back.

“I had this feeling that something was behind (me), and all of a sudden I felt like I started getting pulled underwater. And then the thing came up and I was on my board and it was right there,” Fanning told World Surf TV, according to CNN

He escaped unscatched, while his surfboard suferred a tethered leash. The event was canceled. As for the punched shark, he’s probably swimming the deep blue seas right now, angrily plotting his revenge.
