Former UFC fighter and current delusional old man Tank Abbott thinks he could step into the cage with Ronda Rousey, without a moment of training, and leave her on the mat, “bashed up good.” Then he’d force her to make him a sandwich. Those are actual things a real human said.
Abbott, for those who don’t keep track of faded MMA fighters with mountainous moobs, was one of the earliest UFC stars. Now he’s 50 and podcasting. He’s also apparently desperate for attention. How else do you explain giving an interview to TMZ while lying in bed drunk?
Abbott’s comments about Rousey came on an episode of his podcast that started with him talking about how Floyd Mayweather would “knock the living stuffing out of Ronda Rousey.” His nuanced analysis follows: “She’s a girl; it’s all about this emotional stuff.”
He went on to issue a challenge to any woman who wants to fight him. “I don’t care, I will fight any woman on this Earth for free … I won’t even train. I will fight you and if I win, which is going to happen, and you’re going to get bashed up good, you have to make me a sandwich. If you win, I’ll give you a hundred thousand dollars.”
Where does the animosity come from? Well, as he told TMZ, “A girl is a girl. Make me a sandwich. iron my socks. Actually, make me breakfast, that’d be better.”
Also, about Rousey, he said, “She couldn’t beat herself out of a wet paper bag.”
What’s funny here (other than the idea that he needs his socks ironed) is that Abbott is a career 10-15 fighter. He’s fought once in the past six years. The odds that he could beat Rousey, or any other accomplished female fighter, are pretty low. Couldn’t they just run around the cage until he passed out from exhaustion?
But let’s give Abbott credit where credit is due. The guy knows how to get his name back into the news. Step 1: Say something crazy about Ronda Rousey. Step 2: There is no step two.
