Consider ‘The Lobster’: The Weirdest Movie You’ll See This Year
Colin Farrell plays a lonely heart whose days as a human are numbered.
Colin Farrell is set to redeem himself for the abysmal True Detective Season 2 (though, to be fair, he was the best part of a very bad thing) with The Lobster, a batshit surrealist horror-comedy from delightfully batshit Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth).
The Lobster is set in a dystopian near-future in which single people are considered dangerous societal liabilities. Farrell’s character has just been left by his wife, which means he is quickly sentenced t0 45 days at a “spa” designed to bring single people together. If he fails to find a mate at the end, he will be transformed into an animal of his choice (which, you guessed it, is a lobster.) Rachel Weisz co-stars as a member of a rebel group of singles who run wild on the grounds of the spa and are hunted at night.
The Lobster won the jury prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and opens in the U.S. on March 11.
