‘The Predator’ Plot Details Are Here, So Prepare to Get To the Choppa

Everything you need to know about the long-awaited reboot of the ’80s action classic.

20th Century Fox

We’re just three months away from the release of The Predator, the fourth installment in the franchise about aliens with dreadlocks, and we’re finally learning some major details about the long-awaited reboot.

But before we get to the new stuff, here’s a little refresher on what we already knew:

Predator (1987)

Director Shane Black will bring the Predator to the suburbs for this film. Stacey Snider, CEO of 20th Century Fox, dropped this tidbit in an interview with Variety, where she also revealed that the story will center around a “little boy and his dad.”

We also know the movie will contain lots of violence.

A handful of cast members are known too, including Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn and Keegan-Michael Key.

Last month, Thomas Jane, who’s also in the movie, spilled some more details about the backstory of the characters. They’re military vets suffering from PTSD. When they encounter a crazy dude who thinks he’s seen a UFO with the Predator on board, they decide to track down the monster.

“We’re all like ‘fuck that man, let’s go kill these fucking Predators ourselves’ and we’re just crazy enough to believe that this guy really did see a UFO and there’s these aliens out there,” Jane told Shadow Nation

Now, the latest plot nuggets are coming from Jake Busey, son of crazy-eyed actor Gary Busey, who was in Predator 2. In the reboot, Jake plays the son of his dad’s character, a touch Black thought would “add some depth and connectivity between the two films,” Busey told Pop Culture. The new movie will take place after the sequel, which was released in 1990 and set in 1997.

Like the original, which came out in 1987, this one will show off the Predator’s highly advanced weaponry.

“This one definitely falls in line with the original franchise in that it does focus on the technology that the Predators have. It focuses on what the goal of the Predators is, and what their modus operandi, and why they come to the planet, and that type of thing. It’s definitely in line with the original franchise.”

And to make sure you’re ready for the reboot, Fox is re-releasing the original movie in theaters. Watch the new and improved trailer above to get you hyped
