‘Three’s Company’ Is Going To Be a Movie

Come and knock on their door.

Today’s installment of “Reboots and Sequels We Definitely Do Not Need” is dedicated to the planned big-screen adaptation of Three’s Company, a late 1970’s/early 80s sitcom that launched the late, great John Ritter’s career, as well as that of sex symbol Suzanne Somers, who famously went on to create The Thigh Master.

New Line is reportedly pursuing the rights to the sitcom, and is expected to sidestep the issue of how to update the show’s dated social politics by setting it in the 1970s, but it’s unclear if the show will serve as a prequel or just a feature-length episode.

As The Hollywood Reporter pointed out, the vintage TV-to-movie adaptation worked with The Brady Bunch, but that’s because the movie made fun of the show — as we are hoping/expecting the upcoming Baywatch adaptation will do, because, otherwise, why?

Robert Cort (Cocktail) is set to produce, with Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein reportedly on board to adapt the screenplay. The two last worked together on 2009’s He’s Just Not That Into You, a fairly terrible movie that did pretty well at the box office, thanks in part to an all-star cast (Bradley Cooper, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson.)
