Throwback Thursday: December 2001

Check out what we were up to in December of '01. Don't worry, we'll leave out our middle school class picture.

Every week, we send someone stumbling into the dark Maxim archives to see what we were up to way back when. This week we’re going back to December of 2001, when Jaime Pressly was the house guest we always dreamed of having, Britney Spears was the Queen of Pop, and Game of Thrones had nothing on Lord of the Rings.

Cover Girl: Jaime Pressly

Where You’ve Seen Her: When the beautiful Jaime Pressly first broke into Hollywood, it was as a skinny-dipping seductress crazier than Glenn Close, in Poison Ivy: The New Seduction.Sure, it may have gone straight to VHS, but her figure-hugging house clothes were enough to get our attention—and keep it. From there, she launched into the comedy realm, taking on roles in Not Another Teen Movie and Joe Dirt. Needless to say, there’s nothing better than a hot girl who can make us laugh. (Well, except a hot girl who can makes us laugh and likes us…)

Where She Is Now: Although we haven’t seen Jaime sporting any double-rolled tighty whities lately, we feel confident that she’d still be smoking hot if she did. Since her 2001 Maxim cover, the hot blonde has remained in the comedy spotlight, with appearances in I Love You, Man, My Name is Earl, and Two and a Half Men. Next up for the actress is a starring role in the upcoming thriller Abby in the Summer. Here’s hoping there’s some type of pool involved.

Featuring:

Top Spin: Britney Spears

Endless pop ballads may not be considered our forte, but what we do know is that in 2001, Britney Spears was the queen of the genre. At the time of this particular review, Britney was in the process of trading in her pigtails and school uniform for some green strips of cloth and a snake (not that we’re complaining). Of course, like all good things, that phase didn’t last long; next came Kevin Federline, head-shaving, and a career that seemed destined to fail. Fortunately, Britney has since managed to turn it all around, with a gig on The X Factor and a new album executive produced by Will.i.Am due out soon. It’s just proof that quite a lot can happen in 12 years (if you’re not, like us, just sitting at your desk, drinking whisky out of a shoe).

Hobbit Forming

Even if you’ve spent the last two years in coma, chances are you’re aware of the worldwide obsession with Game of Thrones. Between fire-breathing dragons, the token asshole child-king, and Daenerys Targaryen, it’s hard not to watch the HBO drama. But when we opened this issue and found a sweatered-up Frodo Baggins hanging out with a well-kept Gandalf, our collective ongoing interest in kick-ass fairytales made a lot more sense.
