Tim Tebow Cut by Philadelphia Eagles
Tebow’s NFL future is uncertain.
Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Per the Eagles’ website, Tim Tebow, along with 21 other players, has been cut by head coach Chip Kelly. The current roster stands at 52 players, just one under the NFL limit.
Tebow seemed a shoo-in for the No. 3 quarterback position after Matt Barkley was traded to Arizona on Friday and after Tebow gave a standout preseason performance against the New York Jets this Thursday night. However, his efforts failed to sway Kelly.
“We felt Tim has progressed, but we didn’t feel he was good enough to be the (No.) 3 right now,” Kelly told The Associated Press.
Kelly said the Eagles will continue with two quarterbacks, Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez, and will continue to look for a third. “There could be a third quarterback. We’ll see what happens with the waiver wire. Whether we add a quarterback to the active roster or the practice squad, we’ll see.”
