Today is Blue Monday, The Most Depressing Day of the Year
It’s January 6 – let’s all jump off a bridge together.
Today is the worst. No, really — it’s scientifically proven to be the most miserable day of the year. “Blue Monday” was identified by scholar Cliff Arnall, who, after measuring such factors as weather patterns, debt levels, and the number of days passed since we unapologetically binged on Christmas cookies, determined that people were the saddest sacks on the first Monday in January. And that day is today.
Need more evidence? Today is also the most popular day of the year for couples to file for divorce. And after analyzing Twitter, researchers found there are nearly five times the average number of tweets relating to guilt, as people give up on their New Year’s resolutions to get in shape.
But let’s look on the bright side: Today is also Shortbread Day, so we can drown our sorrows with a plate of sweet biscuit cookies until we make it to tomorrow, which will be slightly less depressing. Or not.
