‘Tokyo Vice’: Watch First Trailer For HBO Max Crime Series

Based on a true story, Ansel Elgort plays an American journalist covering the Tokyo police beat in the new HBO Max show.

HBO Max has dropped the first official trailer for Tokyo Vice, a stylish new crime series starring Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) and Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Inception) from creator/writer J.T. Rogers.

The pilot was helmed by legendary director Michael Mann, who directed the 1990s heist classic Heat. The series premieres with three episodes on April 7, followed by two episodes every Thursday until the April 28 season finale.

Tokyo Vice is loosely inspired by American journalist Jake Adelstein’s nonfiction memoir about covering the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat.

Filmed on location in Tokyo, the gritty crime drama captures Adelstein’s (Elgort) daily descent into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo in the late ’90s. Check out the trailer above.
