Tom Holland Says ‘It’s Great’ That Girlfriend and ‘Spider-Man’ Co-Star Zendaya Is Taller Than Him
“I remember when we were doing the Spider-Man screen tests—every girl that we tested was taller than me.”
Height is just a number in Tom Holland’s eyes.
The Spider-Man actor is currently promoting No Way Home alongside girlfriend and co-star Zendaya, who plays the web-slinging superhero’s friend/love interest Michelle “MJ” Jones.
As part of the press tour, the 5-foot-8-inch Holland and 5-foot-10-inch Zendaya appeared on SiriusXM, during which host Jessica Shaw pointed out a “problematic” assumption that women should be shorter than their male partners.
Commenting on whether it’s a “weird thing” for women to be tall, Holland said, “No, not at all. It’s ridiculous.”
“I remember when we were doing the Spider-Man screen tests—every girl that we tested for both roles was taller than me. There was no one that tested that was shorter than I was.”
“To be fair, I am quite short,” he added. “Maybe that was a decision [Spider-Man: No Way Home director] Jon Watts made and something he was aware of and wanted to break the stereotype. I think it’s great.”
As Men’s Health notes, the issue was raised after Shaw mentioned the pair’s kiss in the 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home
“And it’s a nice sweet moment between them,” Zendaya added. “I hate…having to cheat it and pretend. Like, why not just let it be what it is?”
Amen. While we wait for Spider-Man: No Way Home to swing into theaters on December 17, enjoy a few of Zendaya’s absolutely stunning recent Instagram photos:
