Boxer Amir Khan Says He Wants a UFC Fight With Conor McGregor

Unlike Floyd Mayweather, Khan claims he would step into the Octagon.

Middleweight boxer Amir Khan, last seen counting the birdies flying around his head after Canelo Alvarez knocked him out, will never be the boxer that Floyd Mayweather was.

But the 29-year-old thinks he has something on Mayweather. Unlike the retired-for-now champion, who spent a couple months earlier this year talking up the possibility of a fight with Conor McGregor, Khan would actually take on a UFC’s featherweight champion.

“I’m a little different in that sense, where I would get into a cage and I would fight in MMA rules, so that’s the difference between me and Mayweather.

“I would definitely give it a go. It’s something to learn, as well. I’m at that age where I’m still learning, adapting and getting better. So I still have time under me as well. I’m still a young lad and got loads left in me,” he said in a interview with Flo Combat

Khan suggested that if he were to make a transition tot he MMA, he’d need to take a year off from boxing and then he’d be ready for the cage.

“I could stop and train for a full year and become a good MMA fighter. It’s in our blood to fight. I’ve been fighting all my life, so for me, I don’t think it’d be a problem for me to learn and switch over to the sport.”

This isn’t the first time Khan has talked about switching to MMA. In May, before Alvarez turned his face into Jell-O, Khan said he thought he could beat McGregor. “If I was to fight the champion around 147 pounds, I would fancy my chances. McGregor or whoever.”

Given how much Khan talks about this, there’s a non-zero chance he begins the transition to MMA sometime soon. In fact, as the Instagram pic below says, “UFC training has started.” See you in year, Amir.
