Vampire Weekend Conquer Web (With Help from Steve Buscemi)

With just two weeks to go before the release of their third album, Modern Vampires in the City, indie rock heroes Vampire Weekend are pulling out all the stops. March saw the first single off the album, “Diane Young,” a herky-jerky rave-up that recalls Buddy Holly. The last couple weeks saw them conquer Coachella. They play Saturday Night Live on May 11. But best of all are the series of videos the Vampires filmed with Steve Buscemi, who – if they’re to be believed – is the long lost cousin of bassist Chris Baio. Or, more specifically, that his “maternal great grandmother was first cousins with the paternal great aunt of actor and director Steve Buscemi.” So they’re practically brothers. Is that true? Does it matter? As part of the Amex Unstaged series, the clips are all hilarious, and remind us of how funny Buscemi can be when he’s not acting all serious in Boardwalk Empire, or all creepy everywhere else.

The series, which contains even more clips if you want to dig a little further, was a lead-up Vampire Weekend’s concert at Roseland Ballroom in New York last night, a killer show that was streamed live online. If you missed it, fear not. They’ll be touring in a couple weeks.
