‘Venom’ Debuts New Clip of Tom Hardy Absolutely Destroying a SWAT Team
“You do not wanna do this, trust me.”
Venom trailers have been exciting, promising something dark and creepy with a generous dose of superhero ass-kickery.
In the clip above, the symbiote that turns Eddie Brock into the title character goes into action for the first time, and it’s awesome.
It’s just 30 seconds but it certainly lets viewers know what they’re in for when this movie hits theaters.
In the video, Hardy’s Brock is confronted by a SWAT team, red dots from laser sights on his chest. Even though Eddie looks stricken, hands up, he warns them, “You do not wanna do this, trust me.”
Obviously the cops ignore this, so he shouts “Mask!” and then his unwanted alter ego is in place and the police are in trouble. It isn’t clear as to whether Venom just kills the whole lot of them, though bashing a bunch of guys in tactical gear with one of their teammates would leave more than a bruise.
Here’s the synopsis for Venom, just to put things in context:
Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake’s experiments, Eddie’s body merges with the alien Venom—leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.
Venom looks like it might be worth the wait. It premieres on October 5.
