Watch Keanu Reeves Experience Serious Deja Vu in New ‘Matrix Resurrections’ Teaser

A haunting “It happens when they change something” is recited as Neo revisits scenes from the original “Matrix” movie.

The latest teaser for The Matrix Resurrections continues to lean hard into mystic lore established way back in 1999 by the franchise’s first installment.

Just the first official trailer for Lana Wachowski’s fourth Matrix movie employed the original film’s “white rabbit” motif, this footage features the repetitious uttering of “It happens when they change something.” That was the explanation given to Keanu Reeves’ Neo when he experienced deja vu after the Matrix’s code was altered.

The teaser’s imagery features flashbacks to earlier films, some of which almost psychedelically dissolve into new Resurrections scenes. As Uproxx notes, Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus also appears, a younger version of which will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The minute (or 1:01, in classic Matrix form)-long clip’s trippy nature triggered vastly varied theories from fans, as well as general excitement:
