Watch The Star-Studded Trailer For Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’

Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Steve Carrell, Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Maya Hawke and Willem Dafoe are among the stacked cast.

Wes Anderson’s latest movie, Asteroid City, just might feature the director’s most out-of-this-world cast yet.

Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston and Edward Norton are among the constellation of big names featured in the quirky period film, along with Tilda Swinton, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. And that’s just for starters.

Maya Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Liev Schreiber, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Stephen Park, Hope Davis, Rupert Friend and Jake Ryan are also listed in the credits of the trailer above.

One notable missing name is Bill Murray, who was originally cast in the film before being replaced by Carell after Murray caught COVID-19 shortly before production began.

Written, directed and produced by Anderson—the acclaimed auteur behind such stylized films as Rushmore, Moonrise Kingdom and The Royal TennenbaumsAsteroid City looks like another reliably twee Anderson flick, at least according to the trailer and official synopsis for the film, which takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955.

The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Asteroid City arrives in select theaters on Friday, June 16—one week ahead of its nationwide release. Brace for impact by watching the film’s first trailer above.
