This Week In Weird Sports: Chess Boxing

Check mate....to the face!

Started as a piece of performance art in Holland, Chess Boxing has grown mildly more popular to achieve status of “weird sport that a few people actually pay to see in other countries.” Players must be skilled at both chess and boxing, and they compete in eleven alternating rounds. From four minutes of speed chess to three minutes of regularly-paced boxing. If you win the chess match, you’re declared the winner. If you get knocked out in the boxing ring you’re declared the loser, since it’s hard for a drooling unconscious person to pronounce, let alone pull off, an en passant (that’s a fancy chess move for all you checkers fans).
