This is illustrated beautifully in his atmospheric new video, “The Hills”—who hasn’t wrecked a vintage Lincoln Continental in Beverly Hills then walked away under the rising sun with a meticulous male updo? If you haven’t: get thee to Los Angeles, and quick! The song itself is classic Weeknd: sultry falsetto, pounding bass, skittering high-hat, and heavily sexual—but refreshingly sensitive—lyrics. (See: “You don’t have to do it at my tempo.”) Lauren Conrad makes no cameo, but the video’s glitzy-trashy aesthetic is tribute enough.
