‘Stepbrothers’ Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly To Reunite in ‘Holmes & Watson’

We don’t think Holmes and Watson ever attended a Catalina Wine Mixer.

Sony has tapped Hollywood comedy A-listers Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly to go to the Sherlock Holmes well again.

While Holmes and his pistol-wielding companion Dr. Watson have been portrayed by charismatic duos like Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, they’ve come at the vintage sleuths from a mostly dramatic and action-filled angle. We’re sure to see a very different and likely hilarious take with Ferrell as Holmes and Reilly in the Watson role.

Deadline reported that previous portrayals of the supernaturally observant detective and his war veteran companion “have stoked worldwide awareness for the characters, and hopefully will create an appetite for a full out comic version of the super sleuths, anchored by a couple of stars who are two for two in the hit column together.”

Ferrell and Reilly have proven masters of comedy with their work in Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. Their brilliance with the funny side of dysfunctional relationships will certainly put a great new spin on Etan Cohen’s crime-solving PG-13 version of Holmes & Watson

We can smell the box office bucks already.
