Watch Will Smith Fight Himself in This Explosive New Trailer For ‘Gemini Man’
“Of all the people in the world to come after me, why would he send you?”
If you ever wondered what it might be like to watch Deadshot from Suicide Squad beat the hell out of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, here’s your chance.
That’s right, in his new movie Gemini Man, it looks like Will Smith is some kind of Jason Bourne-like highly-skilled assassin facing down his equally badass 20-something clone.
According to Deadline, here’s what’s up:
The official synopsis for the Paramount/Skydance film: “Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move.” The operative, of course, is a young, cloned version of Brogan.
In statements released to the press with today’s trailer, Lee says new digital technology allowed the film to be made. “This story is not one that could have been told with cinema as we know it,” the director said, explaining that new digital tech allowed for a credible “younger and older Will Smith” sharing the screen.
Let’s admit it: the younger Smith digital de-aging is pretty accurate, given that Fresh Prince immediately came to mind.
Smith, reports Deadline, also had something to say about an obvious subtext here, one that might occur to any man of a certain age: “This is not only an action film,” he said, “but an exploration of what one’s younger self can ultimately teach one’s older self.”
“I’m 50 years old now,” Smith continued, “and the irony of becoming 23-year-old Junior in this film is that 23-year-old me wouldn’t have been ready for this experience or to take on this role.”
Whoa.
We’ll find out if a movie with a similar feel, Bruce Willis’s time travel flick Looper, did a better job with this subject when Gemini Man is in theaters on October 11, 2019.
