If you’re a sports fan, October might be your favorite month of the year. Known as the “Golden Month” of sports, for the uninitiated it’s when the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA all crossover for a few magical weeks.

And you can make your October a really Golden Month with MaximBet by signing up to get a 100% match on your first deposit up to $1,000* with the current welcome offer.

To celebrate this Golden Month, we’re looking at America’s second favorite pastime…eating game day grub.

Chicken Wings

The hallmarks of a great game day food are that it’s inexpensive, easy to cook and can satisfy a crowd of dedicated, hungry sports fans. Enter the chicken wing, well, several pounds of chicken wings. Whether baked, grilled or for the trend followers out there, air-fried, wings are everyone’s favorite.

While everyone has their own preferred flavor, you can’t go past a classic bowl of buffalo hot wings. All you need is 2 1/2 pounds of wings, your favorite seasoning, 1/2 cup of hot sauce, 1/3 cup of melted butter and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Coat your wings in the seasoning, bake for 15 minutes in a preheated 450-degree Fahrenheit oven, then flip for another 15 minutes until they’re crispy. Whisk together the butter and hot sauce, toss your wings in the saucy mix to coat, and voila! Serve up with tasty ranch or blue cheese dressing.

Nachos

Nachos are another classic game day food that is hard to beat. They’re so easy to make and versatile, plus you can also please your vegetarian or vegan friends depending on the recipe (vegan cheeses are available everywhere). An easy recipe? Place a layer of tortilla chips on a baking sheet, and top with diced green onion, sliced olives and cheese (mozzarella or cheddar both work great!). You can also add ground beef, grilled chicken or other protein if you prefer. Serve with salsa, sour cream, and some homemade guacamole. Yum!

Pulled Pork

Although not as quick, easy or inexpensive as nachos or a mess of chicken wings, pulled pork is a super versatile game day snack to serve your guests. You can add it to your nachos, use as the protein for tacos or—our favorite—serve it up on a little bun with lettuce and some ‘slaw for delicious pulled pork sliders. Of course, the secret to great pulled pork is to cook it low and slow. Start with a pork shoulder and season well with salt and pepper. Dice up an onion and four cloves of garlic. Heat up some oil in a skillet and sauté the onions and garlic. Mix that with two tablespoons of tomato paste, a dash of chili spice, three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 3/4 cup of water. Put your pork in a slow cooker, cover with the sauce and cook on low for six to eight hours. Mouthwatering!

Tacos

Want to be known as the ultimate game day party host? Set up a little taco bar for your guests. Tacos are great if you’re entertaining for mixed dietary requirements since your guests can choose their fillings.

For protein you can use ground beef or chicken, pulled pork or battered fish (even tofu). You may want to add some chili spice while cooking to get that authentic flavor. Then just fill bowls with chopped onion, lettuce, tomato, chopped cilantro, sour cream, salsa and some guacamole. Don’t forget to include sliced lime wedges. A little spritz of lime juice will make any taco sing!

Chili

Chili is not only a superb food to serve guests during the game, but it is also a quintessential Fall season food. Loaded with flavor, chili is comfort food that fills you up in a “stick-to-your-ribs” kind of way. Another versatile food, chili can be made with ground beef, ground chicken, or served up vegetarian-style without meat. An easy beef chili recipe will have you brown your meat in a skillet, then adding onion, garlic and carrot, plus salt, pepper and chili powder to taste. Add in a couple cans of diced tomato, as well as some kidney and pinto beans. Let it all simmer—adding salt and pepper to taste as you go—for at least an hour to let the flavors come together. Anyone else hungry?
