Apple’s latest iPhones have officially arrived. The tech giant’s fall announcement, dubbed Wonderlust, debuted the all-new iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 and a set of Apple Watches. Here’s everything you need to know about Apple’s upcoming tech offerings.
iPhone 15 Pro
The rumors of Apple’s move to titanium proved to be more than true, the Grade 5 Titanium was the center of the show, making the new Pro iPhone stronger, lighter and more durable than ever before with a stunning style that puts last year’s muddy purple to shame. The natural titanium body looks particularly badass. Beyond the actual materials, the 6.1” iPhone 15 Pro and 6.7” Pro Max are sporting incredibly powerful A17 Pro Apple Silicon, USB-C connectivity (finally!) with higher speeds than ever before and a camera array that builds on the evolution of the Pro line.
There’s also a new “action button” that could be a game changer depending on use cases that remain to be seen. Both iPhones boast the ability to capture spatial video, an all-encompassing way of capturing moments that can be re-lived in augmented reality once the Apple HD Vision Pro finally makes it to consumers. The iPhone 15 Pro Max also features a 5x optical zoom, normally reserved for telephoto lenses on SLR cameras. Coming in Black, White, Blue and Natural titanium flavors, the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 and the Pro Max starts at $1,199. Preorders open on friday and the phones are available on September 22nd.
iPhone 15
The new iPhone 15 features an all new design that includes the Dynamic Island in the non-pro iPhone for the first time. The iPhone 15 also inherits the A16 chip that powered last year’s pro model, giving this new offering more power and battery efficiency than ever before. Both the regular and oversized Plus model have Super Retina XDR OLED Display, supports Dolby Vision that are twice as bright as last year.
While titanium is reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro models, the iPhone 15 has an aluminum enclosure with pigmentation in it in Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue and Black hues. The new advanced camera system seems to be a leap forward for a base iPhone with a 48 megapixel main camera that leverages a lot of digital trickery to make the camera more capable without the more robust camera array of Pro counterpart. The iPhone 15 also leaves lightning cables behind in the move to USB-C and gets MagSafe too. The iPhone 15 starts at $799 and the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899. Preorders open Friday and the phones will be available on September 22nd.
Apple Watch Series 9
Perpetually one of the most popular wearables on the planet, the new Apple Watch leverages Apple Silicon with the S9 Chip. The Apple Watch Series 9 still has an all-day (18 hour) battery life but is more powerful than ever and able to do more without connecting to other devices. That means Siri is now on-board and able to give pertinent information without needing an internet connection. There’s also a new ability to precision-find an iPhone, similar to how AirTags can find items.
Potentially the most interesting addition to this year’s Apple Watch is the double-tap hand gesture. Seemingly borrowed from Apple’s upcoming HD Vision Pro, using the same hand that’s wearing the watch to double tap with thumb and pointer will activate the main button of the watch, no matter what’s being displayed. Starting at $399 and available in a new Pink Aluminum as well as a range of previous colors, the Apple Watch Series 9 preorders are open now and the Apple Watch will be available on September 22nd.
Apple Watch Ultra 2
The most advanced Apple Watch also boasts the biggest display, longest battery life and an eye-catching design, made specifically for climbers of the highest mountains and divers to the deepest depths. Not much needed improving for the Apple Watch Ultra but Apple keeps pushing the envelope by adding some sweet perks like on-device Siri for dropping waypoints just by saying so.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 also marks the brightest display Apple’s ever made, specifically for extreme conditions. A new watch face is front and center here, thanks to Modular Ultra design, which uses even more of the watch face’s screen with the display utilizing everything to just inside bezel. There’s also a customizable action button, monster battery life of 36 hours on a charge. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 starts at $799 and can be ordered online today with in-store availability coming September 22nd.
