Bulgari Unveils World’s Thinnest Mechanical Watch
The record-breaking timepiece–priced at nearly $15,000–is just 1.8 millimeters thick.
Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo collection has just set its eighth—and arguably most impressive—world record since the razor-thin line of luxury watches launched in 2014.
At just 1.8mm wide, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra is the world’s thinnest mechanical watch, dethroning the 2mm thick Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept.
Forbes reports that the watch was born of a collaboration between Bulgari’s in-house team and movement specialist Concepto. The resulting BVL Caliber 180, the world’s thinnest manual-winding movement, uses the tungsten carbide caseback as its mainplate. The 170-piece caliber timepiece also boasts a 50-hour power reserve.
There are other parts that serve as multiple components to conserve space, like the dial, which both displays the time and anchors other parts in place.
The timepiece also contains several pieces of patented technology, including the glass assembly, barrel structure, oscillator module, differential display, modular structure, and titanium bracelet, which was developed to be as thin as the watch.
This Ultra is the latest addition to the Octo Finissimo family, which has already claimed the world’s thinnest tourbillon, minute repeater, self-winding watch, self-winding tourbillon, chronograph, tourbillon chronograph, and perpetual calendar, according to Hodinkee.
The ridiculously-thin Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra is available to purchase online now for $14,700.
