Is This the Real Hoverboard?

Hoverboard Tech’s seeking funding for what looks like the most souped-up hoverboard yet.

Given that Walmart’s gonna start selling “hoverboards,” and it appears we’re hitting a tipping point (so to speak) in the personal electric vehicle market, it seems like an awfully good time to own the hoverboard.com domain. As it happens, Hoverboard Technologies (the folks who do) just began crowdfunding their take on the one-wheeled gyroscopic land surfer on Kickstarter.

Aside from looking all space age-y, with glowing lights and a eye-catching design, it touts some impressive specs: a top speed of 16 MPH with a range of 12 miles and able to charge in under 20 minutes. Oh yeah, and it has built in speakers and a companion app with all sorts of slick functionality.

Whether it’s worth the $3,775+ asking price is up for debate. But one of its much more affordable competitors happens to have rolled into our office, so keep your eyes peeled for an exclusive hands-on—or more accurately if we do it right, feet-on—assessment of that one.
