This Insane Jacob & Co. Watch Houses a Working Bugatti Engine
See “the world’s first true engine on the wrist” in action.
The king of hypercar engines is getting immortalized by a master of ultra-luxury watchmaking.
Jacob & Co. is continuing its ongoing Bugatti partnership with the Chiron Blue Sapphire Crystal timepiece. The beating heart is the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon—a mini-homage to the famously monstrous 8.0-liter W16 behind all of the VW-owned marque’s blistering exotics since the 2005 Veyron.
At the press of the right crown, the movement sputters to life with 16 pumping pistons and two swirling turbochargers. This also powers the timing functions and 60-second flying tourbillon, which is set at a 30-degree inclination to ensure the tiny engine can be viewed through a replica of Bugatti horseshow grille.
Months of materials processing, machining and polishing went into producing the 578 hand-decorated and -assembled components, many of which can be viewed through a fully transparent caseback.
Continuing the high-octane aesthetic is a power reserve indicator: a gas pump symbol that illuminates at nine o’clock. The case itself is shaped is shaped like a sporty sapphire tonneau cover, while the “Bugatti’ and “EB” (for founder Ettore Bugatti” logos appear throughout.
“At Jacob & Co., we are always developing luxury watches which no one else can imagine,” said Jacob & Co. CEO Benjamin Arabov in a statement.
“With the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon timepiece, we have done something no one has ever even attempted before, create the world’s first true engine on the wrist.”
