Oakley’s limited edition Moonveil collection merges sporty shades with desert-style headgear for a wild new design that the eyewear giant hopes will inspire wearers to “venture off the beaten path and explore new frontiers.”

Moonveil made its debut in Oakley’s animated sci-fi video Future Genesis Chapter One —as a holographic projection—before it became a 100-item limited-edition drop in the real world. The resulting headwear features multi-condition lenses attached to a weather-resistant cloak designed to celebrate “elemental resilience and adaptability.”

Instead of a traditional frame with ear stems, Moonveil notably features a jet-black, knitted cloak with reflective yarn lines thaat stitched to capture light and attention. It includes interchangeable dual Prizm lens shields on a swivel system, allowing wearers to adapt to changing light conditions.

The Prizm 24K lens provides maximum eye protection and reduces light transmission for bright environments, while the Prizm Low Light lens increases light intake in darker conditions. The cloak has zip-off front closures for a customizable fit, allowing open-faced styling or complete anonymity. Each Moonveil will include original concept sketches from Oakley designers and the Future Genesis preview comic by Dark Horse, which features Moonveil on the back cover.

“With Moonveil, we are bridging the world inside and outside Future Genesis through a vision of empowerment and a revolutionary leap in design,” said Brian Takumi, Oakley’s VP of Brand Soul and Creative in a statement heralding the release. “This sentiment is reflected in every aspect of the Moonveil, from its conceptual roots in Oakley’s animated world of Future Genesis Chapter One, to manifest itself into the real world.”

The limited-edition design launches on Oakley.com beginning in September 2024.
