This Brainy Wine Dispenser Pours Perfectly and Learns What You Like
Simplifying and personalizing wine, one flavor at a time.
Wine can be intimidating. Forget about pairing it correctly with food. It can be hard just to know what you like and what you don’t. Well, Synek hopes to help make vino more accessible to you—in a couple of ways.
Their new Somm dispenser uses large cans they call Sylos—each holding the equivalent of three wine bottles. When you insert the Sylos, it automatically adjusts the temperature and aeration to optimize that particular wine’s flavor. A simple turn of the handle to pour, and you’ve entered the world of wine.
Where the real fun comes in is that as you’re enjoying each wine—which you can eject from the Somm and interchange with another flavor at your whim—you tell the app what flavors and varieties you like…or don’t. As it gets to know your tastes, the system is able to recommend particular wines especially for you, based on their offerings through partnerships with Just Wine and Wine Tasting Network.

Through its already-funded Kickstarter campaign, you can snag a Somm unit for $199, saving a hundred bucks off the retail price.
Once you’ve chosen between the Stainless Steel, Beechwood and Dark Oak models, all that’s left is memorize a bunch of real deep-sounding things to say after taking a swig, like: “I find this precocious little Pinot fruity and a bit presumptuous, almost Episcopalian in its predictability.”
