Furor Over Floyd Mayweather’s New Pet Tiger
Many are not happy about the boxer’s latest show of bravado.
We’ve always sort of loved the fact that boxer Floyd Mayweather spends his hard-won dollars on the most ridiculous purchases. Bentley golf carts, $6.4 million worth of watches, and motorcades of all-white cars are chump change for the notorious bon vivant.
Floyd’s latest acquisition, a pet tiger, was actually “an early Christmas present” from Russian associates—and their largesse is landing the boxer in hot water. When the welterweight flaunted his exotic and lethal pet on Instagram, outrage came fast and furious.

Chrissy Teigen was one of the first to weigh in, tweeting, “I’m okay with people having pet tigers because it increases their chances of being eaten by a tiger.” Harsh words, but Chrissy wasn’t alone.
Animal rights groups have joined the fray. Big Cat Rescue, a nonprofit animal sanctuary in Florida, just posted the following impassioned message on its Facebook page. Read below:
Floyd at the very least should play safe and put that thing in a cage.
