The Good Husband: Paul Newman

"A man with no enemies is a man with no character."

Paul Newman(January 26, 1925 – September 26, 2008) was a good guy. He was Butch Cassidy, the wry, the blue-eyed darling for generations. Like Robert Redford, his co-star on Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, he chose not to live in Hollywood, fleeing instead to live the quiet life in Connecticut with Joanne Woodward, his wife of 50 years. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Color of Money, and gathered eight more nominations, as well as six Golden Globe Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award, an Emmy Award. It’s a long list. Perhaps equally as impressive were his handful of national champioships as a driver in Sports Car Club of America road racing circuit. As if that weren’t enough, Newman was a co-founder of Newman’s Own, a food company from which Newman donated all post-tax profits and royalties to charity. That’s a good guy for you.
