On Tuesday, a “Muslim-free” firearms store and gun range in Oktaha, Oklahoma temporarily closed its doors after a man accidentally shot himself with a .45 colt revolver on the premises. According to a posting on Save Yourself Survival and Tactical Gear’s Facebook page, the victim’s gun discharged after falling from a “malfunctioning chest holster.”
Earlier this month, owners of the store allegedly began receiving death threats after declaring it a “Muslim-free” zone on the heels of the recent deadly attacks on two military recruiting stations in Chattanooga, Tennessee. “We do not want to have any jihadist training on our gun range and then going down to our local armed services office and having better marksmanship than they showed up with,” Chad Neal, one of the owners, told the Tulsa World. A group of armed civilians have been standing guard outside the store ever since.
“I saw several of those gentlemen out there yesterday,” an unsurprised Sheriff Charles Pearson told local news outlet Muskogee Now. “The way they were holding their weapons, with the fingers on the triggers, you can tell a couple of these gentlemen have no idea about weapons safety. It’s like the Clampetts have come to town.”
Meanwhile, news of the incident hasn’t garnered much sympathy from the public, either. In fact, many people have pounced on the opportunity to voice their appreciation for this unfortunate twist of events on Save Yourself’s Facebook page. (The man is expected to recover.)
