Woman Arrested For Unwanted Twerking

When twerking goes wrong.

Everyone loves some good twerking, but there are apparently times when it’s inappropriate—if not a downright strange, even violent thing to do. A bizarre twerking incident that took place in early October inside a DC-area convenience store has actually ended in the arrest of one of the alleged twerkers, Las Vegas resident Ayanna Marie Knight, age 22. Fox 5 DC reported the unnamed male victim was on the phone inside the store when things turned strange:

The man, who has asked not to be identified, said he was getting gas at the Shell station in the 1700 block of New York Avenue NE on October 7 around 4 p.m. when he was attacked. The video shows the women coming over to the man, and then they are seen twerking and groping him. The man said the suspects also flashed him while he pumped gas and followed him as he called police.

The man told the Fox affiliate he feared for his safety for a number of reasons. For one thing, he saw men hanging around nearby he assumed were pimps, and he feared retaliation from them if he did anything to defend himself. “I did not want to be shot that day,” he said. He also said he thought the pair who approached him “. . .were either transvestites, or women, or men dressed like women.”

The victim has elected to keep his name and face out of the story, he said, due to fear of social media backlash. And it’s true, had the genders of the alleged assailants and the victim been reversed, the story might have been viewed—and sometimes reported—in a very different way.

One of the women in the video remains at large, reported the DC Fox station, and Ayanna Marie Knight will be charged with 3rd degree sex abuse, which could net a maximum ten years in prison.
