Turns Out Intense Workouts Can Really Mess Up Your Sex Life, Says Science

Bad news for all you gym rats.

If I’m not mistaken, I think it’s safe to assume most dudes go to the gym to get swole and sexy for the ladies. Am I right? I think I’m right.

While yes, ladies dig washboard abs and thunderous biceps, a new study suggests that intense workouts can really mess with your libido, rendering all the hard work you put into your strong and muscular body completely useless. Damn, what a bummer.

The study, led by exercise physiology and nutrition professor Anthony Hackney, surveyed 1,100 physically active men about their sex lives and exercise habits, and found that men who had long and intense exercise routines had crappy libidos, and were far less interested in putting their hard-earned muscles to good use in the bedroom, relative to those who had light to moderate exercise routines.

Wow, can you imagine how disappointing that must be? You work out like crazy for months and get super ripped, and all the ladies flock to you — but you can’t hook up with any of them because your penis is failing you, and it’s all your fault.

Dr. Hackney believes that working out really hard until you’re on the verge of passing out leads to physical fatigue and lowered testosterone levels, and that destructive combo is what wipes out your sex drive.

Speaking of testosterone, previous research found that while moderate exercise increases testosterone and ramps up your sex drive, extreme exercise lowers testosterone, and consequently, your sex drive. Low testosterone can also fuck with your emotions and make you fat and bald, so maybe it’s best to take it easy at the gym. It’s not worth it.

That said, if you’re someone who loves to hit the gym seven days a week and work out for many hours until you’re ready to die, you might want to pause and reevaluate your priorities. Would you rather work out for three hours a day, or would you rather have a working penis?

Anyway, I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure any woman would prefer a fit, healthy man who is interested in sex, rather than a jacked bro who can’t get it up.
