‘World’s Largest Biker Bar’ Goes Up in Flames

You won’t be surprised at what fueled the fire.

Sturgis, South Dakota is home to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, going strong since 1938. Until Tuesday it was home to the Full Throttle Saloon, which claimed to be biggest biker bar in the world. Full Throttle Saloon burned to the ground Tuesday, and the fire was likely juiced by 500 gallons of perfectly good alcohol.

The Associated Press report indicated the bar, once the subject of a reality series on truTV, was clouded with smoke when fire crews arrived after midnight. In a mere 3 hours, according to the AP, “the main building was gutted,” but fortunately there were no injuries.

High winds, intense heat and smoke as well as a lack of nearby hydrants complicated the work of the 45 firefighters who answered the call, the AP reported. Once flames reached the distillery adjoining the saloon and the 500 gallons of grain alcohol inside, Full Throttle was going down.

We are one in bowing heads with the bikers who have called Sturgis and this saloon a home sometimes.

And we were still bummed from the long-ago loss of all that firenado-fueling Kentucky bourbon.
