Matt and Ammar used tinder to get free food and lodging across Europe

We already know that using transportation app Uber with romantic intentions is frowned upon. But what about using dating app Tinder to scam a free European vacation?

To test that tantalizing possibility to the limit, Matt Dajer and Ammar Kandil—part of the adventurous and apparently ingenious team behind the Yes Theory YouTube channel—wanted to see if they could use Tinder as their sole means to obtaining food, shelter and a unique local experience in three European cities in three days.

It took thousands of swipes, but they ate, saw sites and slept indoors

Of course, they used money to travel to each city. But once there, it was all about the swiping. In fact, they estimate to have swiped over 10,000 times just to get a few dozen positive responses. But those matches came through in spades (as you can see in the video below).

Day one, it was after 5 pm in Amsterdam when a prospect offered free food and a couch for the night. Day two in Paris, a couple of friendly French benefactors treated the guys to snacks and another woman took Ammar up the Eiffel Tower. Day three in Barcelona, it took networking through a social group to score eats and wind up at a trendy nightclub.

Naturally, their Tinder dates brought them to meet their next dates

Though successful, it certainly wasn’t easy. As Matt said, “When we first started swiping, we realized how hard this was actually going to be. Not only were we asking the girl to meet up on that very day, but we were asking to sleep in her home! We were getting zero matches or responses for HOURS.”

What’s most interesting about this adventure is that while the two could’ve been using the app to set a new pan-European sex spree record, they instead chose to focus on the pure travel aspect, soaking up the local scene as best they could. (Partly this is because they both had girlfriends at the time, naturally whom they’d met through Tinder.)

All in all, not a bad way to travel

In fact, the project worked so well that they’ve remained in touch with the women they connected with on that trip. As Matt explained, “Tinder is actually a great tool for meeting people. If you use it the right way (i.e not just looking for hook ups) you can meet so many awesome people on there.”

Now the two are back home stateside, no doubt giving their swiping fingers a rest and planning their next excellent adventures.
