Pop princess Ariana Grande got a sweet-looking Japanese tattoo on her hand that was intended to honor her new hit song, “7 Rings.”
Unfortunately, crucial missing characters made it read something completely different. Grande’s tattoo originally said, “BBQ Grill.”
Ariana Grande’s new tattoo “七輪” means Japanese style bbq grill, not 7 rings. 😭 If you want to know about 七輪, just google “SHICHIRIN” pic.twitter.com/HuQM2EwI62

To be specific, that’s the name of a type of small Japanese charcoal grill, the shichirin.
Funnier still? Grande went back to her tattoo artist to get her ink fixed, but that made things worse. The tattoo now says “Japanese Finger BBQ.”

In remembrance of our favorite tattoo of 2019: a small charcoal grill and a small charcoal bag to match. We saw it. We liked it. We wanted it. We made it. @ArianaGrande pic.twitter.com/7bLYDPxi7Y

This is one of the funniest things ever, but the 25-year old singer stands by the tat and insists it came out wrong because it “hurt like fuck.” But it “still looks tight,” according to her, because that’s what matters.
Grande tweeted:

When it comes to the backlash she’s received (generally in the form of everyone laughing at how funny her tattoo is), Grande has been quick to swat away the haters.
“Get off my nuts,” she tweeted at TMZ.
@TMZ The next time you come for @ArianaGrande you need to get your facts correct. Chinese is not Japanese FFS 💀😂🔥 Deal with it. pic.twitter.com/LnHW7kmYEX

Forget TMZ, though—now the internet has jumped on her nuts. It isn’t just pointing out her misspelled ink—many on social media have called Ariana Grande out for cultural appropriation.
ariana grande uses japanese as aesthetic way too much for someone who doesnt speak it. and she doesnt even check if its right??? her new tattoo says something about bbq???? but people just keep letting her go on with her culture appropriation because shes ariana

BroBible managed to grab a since-deleted Twitter rant Grande posted in response to all this:
I also went back and got it fixed with the help of my tutor to be more accurate. I can’t read or write kanji obviously. What do you want me to do? It was done out of love and appreciation. What do you want me to say? U kno how many people make this mistake and DON’T care just cause they like how it looks? Bruh… I care sooooo much. What would u like me to do or say? Forreal. There is a difference between appropriation and appreciation. My Japanese fans were always excited when I wrote in Japanese or wore Japanese sayings on my clothing. However, all of the merch with Japanese on it was taken down from my site, not that anyone cared to notice. I have crippling anxiety lol. I don’t like hurtin ppl. People on this app really don’t know how to be forgiving or gentle when someone has made an innocent mistake. No one considers feelings other than their own. It’s very pointless. Ion [I don’t] even know why I’m talking ab[out] this anymore.
Funny as the screwup is, it’s just a tattoo. Let’s be fair and leave Ariana Grande and her Japanese Finger BBQ alone.
