Arnold Schwarzenegger was on safari recently in Africa when he and his party had a very close encounter with a fearsome wild elephant. Schwarzenegger posted the video on Instagram, writing that he “couldn’t have written this safari encounter better if it was a movie.”
“I’m absolutely in awe of these beautiful, strong animals,” Schwarzenegger continued, “even though some of us had to change our pants after this.”
In the footage the elephant seems relatively calm at first, simply testing the car with a tap of his tusk on the glass. Then it clearly goes into stalking mode. You can hear in the video that Schwarzenegger senses what’s about to come, saying that it will charge the party.
Then it does, and even The Terminator himself sounds pretty freaked out.
Scary as it was, Schwarzenegger made it clear in his Instagram post that he hates elephant poachers, writing that “We need to stop killing them – take a photo, not a shot. Would you rather be able to experience these creatures or a hunk of ivory? I thought so.”
We agree—a photo at a much safer distance than seen in this video sounds great, if the other choice is getting charged by a humongous sharp-tusked death machine that scares even Schwarzenegger.
