Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte: ‘I’d Eat the Livers of ISIS Terrorists With Salt and Vinegar’
Move over, Hannibal Lecter.
Controversial Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who is prone to bizarre and lurid quotes, has delivered the ultimate warning to ISIS terrorists.
In a recent speech, Duterte boasted that he is “50 times” more hardcore than ISIS. To prove it, he said he would eat the livers of captured terrorists with salt and vinegar (tasty!).
“If you want me to be an animal, I’m also used to that. We’re just the same,” Duterte said of how he would face off against ISIS. “I can dish out, go down what you can 50 times over.”
“Give me salt and vinegar and I’ll eat his liver,” Duterte, 72, added, going full-on Hannibal Lecter. “It’s true, if you make me angry.”
The disturbing declaration is pretty shocking coming from the president of a country even in today’s political climate, but it’s totally in line with Duterte’s bonkers statements of the past.
Duterte won the Philippine presidency in part due to his ultra-hardline stance against drugs and domestic terrorism.
His draconian “war on drugs” has caused the deaths of 8,000, prompting him to be accused of “crimes against humanity.” He has also bragged of personally killing criminals when he was mayor of his home city of Davao.
So a cuddly public image clearly isn’t his top priority. He has told reporters “Don’t fuck with me”, has called political opponents “gay” and famously responded to a reporter who asked about his health, “How is your wife’s vagina?”
The New York Times even helpfully aggregated his most outrageous quotes, which includes calling both Pope Francis and President Obama the “son of a whore.”
Stay weird, President Duterte.
