How Dr. Rami Albahri Achieves An Ideal Work-Life Balance
The surgical prosthodontist has been a key figure in revolutionizing dentistry in the UAE and internationally.
The dental profession is one of the most critical pillars of modern medicine. Dr. Rami Albahri, the Chief Operating Officer and Surgical Prosthodontist at Albahri Dental and Orthodontic Center in the UAE, has been a key figure in revolutionizing dentistry internationally through his practice and public education on preventive care and other related topics. His center specializes in high-quality, interdisciplinary dental procedures in the UAE, including prosthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, and orthodontics.
Dr. Albahri graduated from New York University with a Doctor of Dental Surgery, followed by a Master’s in Medical Sciences degree from Harvard Medical School and a specialty residency program in Prosthodontics from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston. He specializes in minimally invasive prosthetics, facial esthetics, and full-mouth rehabilitation, including implant surgery and botulinum toxin injectables.
Dr. Rami explained his different daily roles, some of which are a husband, a clinician, a medical director, an administrator, a researcher, a lecturer, an educator, and finally an entrepreneur.
He currently holds the position of COO, Medical Director and Surgical Prosthodontist in Al Bahri Dental and Orthodontic Center, while serving as director of the dental department at Specialized Medical Care Hospital.
In explaining one of his life’s philosophies, he quoted Robin Sharma: “Take excellent care of the front end of your day, and the rest of your day will pretty much take care of itself.”
He added, “The key to being effective starts with two habits: exercise and self-education or self improvement. Start your day with exercise and mentally plan the day, by doing that you are starting your day with your first success along with guiding your day rather than the day guiding you. Furthermore, whether through online courses, books or even a study club, always look to improve upon yourself, whether it’s your clinical skills, communication skills or even just listening skills, which we are slowly losing”.
Another element Dr. Rami mentioned is the value of time, not only in planning and scheduling, but also as it relates to the art of delegation. Delegate the items that could be handled by another individual, but be sure to provide them with the conditions to be successful.
Another key to success deals with the importance of setting your personal mission statement and core values from the start, as well as defining the circumstances that will enable you to fulfill that mission. Having set those “ground rules” makes future sacrifices and decisions much easier.
Being a dentist, Albahri’s mission involves helping all citizens achieve good dental health. As a high-caliber doctor licensed in the west and the east, his mission is changing the industry and carving a different path from the highly commercialized and corporate route other practices have taken in recent years. In his practice, quality care and service to patients, as well as public education and training of other professionals, take center stage. Everything else comes after.
When asked, “You had a long journey to attain the clinical skills and education you earned, why share it?” he replied, “Teaching and educating other doctors is the most effective way to improve patient care in the community without personally doing the clinical work.”
His goal is to scale his center’s operations and take on the dental care and education market through strategic partnerships with similar vision in the UAE in the next few years. Dr. Albahri is also eyeing the international market, particularly North America.
