If you want a full-size SUV with the guts of a hypercar, you can buy a 1,000-horsepower Chevy Suburban or Tahoe with a warranty straight from a dealer.
It should come as no surprise that the souped-up utes come from Specialty Vehicle Engineering—the same renowned GM tuner that endowed the Yenko Camaro with four-figure output and supercharged the Yenko Silverado to 800 hp.
Both SUVs get a custom 6.8-liter V8 and a high-output supercharger under the hood. A heavy-duty automatic transmission handles the power, while a high-end throttle body and fuel injectors further improve performance.
Other upgrades include a stainless steel-tipped exhaust, CNC ported LT-1 cylinder heads and SVE-embroidered floor mats and head rests.
To get SVE’s 1,000-hp treatment, donor vehicles have to be rear-wheel drive. The tune-up costs $66,995, which is more the twice the base price of the Suburban and Tahoe.
If you want a souped-up Chevy with all-wheel drive, the New Jersey-based firm has a second, slightly less powerful package:
Car Buzz has further details:
If you want four-wheel drive, SVE also offers a Stage I package with the same 6.8-liter supercharged V8 engine downgraded to a mere 810 hp.
Stage I kits include a forged steel crankshaft and aluminum pistons, CNC-ported LT1 heads, a custom supercharger, headers, and an optional heavy-duty transmission.
All SVE upgrades come with a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty on the engine and body and a one-year, 12,000-mile warranty on the tranny.
