Here’s Your First Look At The Gorgeous 2021 Jaguar F-Type
Jag’s new performance coupe gets an eye-popping makeover and a powerful new engine lineup.
Jaguar gave the already-striking F-Type a makeover for the 2021 model year and a powerful new engine lineup to boot.
The sporty coupe now boasts a new clamshell hood design that sweeps from the slimline LED headlight to achieve an overall aesthetic that subtly references classic Jags like the 1950s-era C- and D-type race cars. A wider and deeper gloss-black grille wide with a new hexagonal mesh pattern and satin chrome grille surrounds adorn the door.
There are now three power plants available. The heftiest, a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that produces 575 hp, is reserved for the top-end F-Type R, while a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 distinguished by two large round tailpipes resides in the 380-hp F-Type R-Dynamic. The base F-Type gets a turbo-charged 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder and 296 horsepower.
All drivetrains get eight-speed automatic transmissions with the ability to shift manually with steering wheel-mounted paddles or Jaguar’s Sportshift gear selector. A sprint in the R model to 60 mph takes 3.5 seconds, and the the top end is electronically limited to 186 mph. Those stats are right up there with the 2020 Porsche 911.
The F-TYPE R-Dynamic also gets layered racing-inspired aero-blades that guide airflow around the front of the car. The F-TYPE R models feature more aggressively-styled gloss black bezels around the apertures and aerodynamically-optimized strakes serve to further reduce drag.
All models are of offered in 16 cleverly named colors from the Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations palette, including “Ligurian Black,” “Velocity Blue,” “Sorrento Yellow” and “Icy White. Each is available with the choice of gloss or satin finish.
The interiors are clad in a combination Windsor Leather, Suedecloth, chrome accents and monogram stitching on the seats and door trim. A 12.3-inch reconfigurable HD instrument cluster provides drivers with necessary performance info, and the Apple CarPlay- and Android Auto-capable infotainment system is operable via a 10-inch touchscreen matched to three tactile rotary controllers.
Prices for the 2021 Jaguar F-Type haven’t been revealed, but at most expect to pay $120,000, as that’s around the MSRP for the 2020 Jaguar F-Type SVR that the F-Type R is replacing.
