European pickups don’t have the hard-earned legacies of American models like the RAM HD, Chevrolet Silverado, or Ford Ranger, but this custom “Icelandic-spec” Volkswagen truck can run with the best of them.

Arctic Trucks—the U.K. shop behind this murdered-out Isuzu D-Max “Stealth”—picked the VW Amarok because of its standard 45-degree climbing capability, 2,544 max payload and hill descent control system.

Without tweaking the Amarok’s 221-horsepower diesel V6, Arctic Trucks lifted the suspension and added trimmed fiber glass wheel arches to accommodate knobby all-terrain tires.

The interior got an “expedition makeover” that includes everything one needs to to tackle remote icescapes—a portable generator, toolbox, first aid kit and defibrillator, VHF radio, fire extinguisher and even a cappuccino machine.

The “Amarok AT35” is sadly a one-off, but Arctic Trucks has given similar treatments to other off-roaders like the Ford F350, Lexus LX570 and Toyota Tacoma.
