Audi’s 610-HP R8 Spyder Is So Blindingly Hot, You Don’t Want To Stare At It For Too Long
Beast mode.
It would be helpful if sports car manufacturers could agree on a spelling of “spider” when referring to convertibles, but we’ll forgive Audi’s “Spyder” designation for the R8 V10 Plus because it delivers the company’s naturally aspirated 610-horsepower 6.2-liter V10 engine
“The Audi R8 Spyder V10 plus completes the R8 model line,” said Stephan Winkelmann, managing director of Audi Sport. “The Spyder is now also available as a 610 hp top version in addition to the Coupé. It benefits from our many years of experience in motorsport and combines breathtaking dynamics with the emotion of an open-top sports car.”
Audi already offered the Spyder with V10 power, but now it enjoys the extra 70 horsepower of the plus (lower case) model’s 610 horsepower, with its 3.3-second 0-62 mph time and 204-mph top speed.
The R8 uses a traditional-looking folding soft top, which folds in 20 seconds to provide a smooth rear deck lid and avoids the flying buttresses of hardtop convertibles like the McLaren 570S Spider.
Base price in Germany is the equivalent of $233,000, but U.S. pricing hasn’t yet be set. Deliveries begin in late summer.
