If you’re in the market for a great new car, you’ve come to the right place.
From track-eating supercars to luxe daily drivers, there are more than 300 new models on the market today, most of which come with countless combinations of technology, trims, safety features and more.
Needless to say, choosing the perfect new whip can seem like a daunting task. Thankfully, Autotrader, the king of third-party car buying, is here to help.
The brand’s esteemed automotive experts selected the 12 Best New Cars of 2019 based on a comprehensive set of factors that matter most in the industry, then narrowed that list down even further to just seven superior rides.
“We know the purchase of any car is a personal decision–often, we like cars and trucks that say something about us as guys and about us as individuals,” says Brian Moody, Autotrader’s executive editor.
“To move you closer to that perfect match, we use a wide-ranging set of criteria, including interior comfort and materials, build quality, features and ride quality. Available technology, value, and driving experience were also factored in.”
Autotrader’s top picks were made with the understanding that drivers’ wants and needs can vary drastically based on who they are, what they want in a car and where they’re at in life.
“Our team selected a diverse group of vehicles that will benefit car shoppers with a variety of needs and lifestyles,” Moody says.
What’s more, all of Autotrader’s editors reached a unanimous decision on these cars, so you know you that the list is totally legit.
From Jaguar’s first ever EV to the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 luxury SUV and the musclebound GMC Sierra 1500 pickup, there really is something for everyone.
Here, Autotrader’s top seven picks for the best new cars you can buy right now:
Jaguar I-Pace
Can’t get excited about electric cars? The Jaguar I-Pace will change that. With 294 horsepower and a 234-mile all-electric range, the I-Pace is very quick and has a real Jag feel on the inside and on the road. Tesla started the luxury EV revolution, but this Jag takes it to the next level.
2019 GMC Sierra 1500
The Sierra is for anyone who wants a tough looking truck but also needs to do actual work.
The multi-function tailgate is no joke, either. It’s more than just a marketing gimmick and actually makes hard work easier, leaving owners free to enjoy the optional Bluetooth speaker system and well-designed bed lighting.
For durability and bragging rights, you can also get a carbon fiber bed–a first in the world of pickups.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450
The new GLE-Class is likely the most well-rounded SUV you can find.
It looks great and performs equally well on and off-road. Even if you never take it off the beat path, the GLE 450 is a spectacular combination of power, fun and serenity.
Family car? Yes. Excellent for die-hard skiers? Yep. Perfect car when you become the boss? Double yes. Also, Benz’s new MBUX tech interface takes voice control to the next level. This one SUV does it all.
2019 Genesis G70
Anyone can get a European luxury sedan–in some cities, they’re almost common. The Genesis G70 takes a different path.
A loaded G70 with very impressive performance specs will set you back about $45,000. A nicely equipped and still luxurious base model is about $10,000 less than that. It’s an excellent performance/luxury car for those who don’t want to follow the crowd.
2019 Volvo XC40
Urban living has its advantages, but plentiful parking isn’t one of them. The new XC40 delivers the luxury you want in a more user-friendly footprint.
It’s also surprisingly quick and quiet for those weekends when you want to leave the city far behind. A unique subscription plan also works well for those want the perks–but not the hassle–of driving their own personal car.
2019 Honda Passport
If you just can’t shake that practical streak but still want a ride that takes you well off the beaten path–and looks cool doing so–the Honda Passport is the SUV for you. Especially if you’re not into Jeeps or Toyota 4Runners, the rugged new Passport could be just the thing.
Mechanically, it has a lot in common with the family-friendly and extremely reliable Honda Pilot, so you know it will last. If you spend a little more time on the road than you do off, the resurrected Passport definitely deserves a test drive.
2019 Acura RDX
What used to be a cute little premium ‘ute is now a fully-realized compact luxury SUV with an emphasis on the “sport” part.
The A-Spec version is edgy looking without being overly garish. The turbocharged engine makes 272 hp and audiophiles will love the ELS sound system, one of the best in-car setups at any price.
