Ford is gearing up to show more than 50 customized rides at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show. Ahead of the Las Vegas event, the American automaker is offering gearheads a sneak peak at an aftermarket 2020 Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid that’s tailored to rule any trail.
Glenview, Illinois’ Blood Type Racing equipped the mid-size SUV with a host of menacing mods. A half-inch lift kit, Ford Performance skid plate and 20-inch black chrome wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber not only improve the vehicle’s already impressive off-road capability, but gives the Explorer a meaner aesthetic appeal.
A custom exhaust with black chrome tips ensures that passersby hear the 3.3-liter hybrid V6 powertrain’s ample 318 horsepower, while more murdered-out components including the front grille, rear bumper, door handle accents and lower door moldings round out the black-and-white colorway.
Additionally, Ford’s roof rack crossbars have been fitted with a snowboard carrier, implying that this particular ride is made for treks through frozen landscapes.
Though no interior art was provided, Ford says that a hi-fi entertainment system from Voxx “provides entertainment on the journey to explore the wilderness.”
The Blood Type Racing 2020 Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid is a one-off created specifically for SEMA, but it serves as a great template for anyone who wants to upgrade a stock model. Proceed accordingly.
