Cadillac Just Unveiled an Edgy New SUV
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 will debut at the Dubai Motor Show in November, but Cadillac showed it at a New York Fashion Week kickoff party.
Cadillac unveiled the imposing XT5 crossover SUV at Manhattan’s Design House Public School, with the car dramatically arriving via helicopter to a party celebrating the collaboration of the design house with the carmaker. Public School will debut its fall collection at a runway show in conjunction with the Dubai Motor Show, where the XT5 will finally meet its public.
“This is a new way for two American brands to join forces, share a passion for design and grow globally,” said Andrew Smith, Cadillac executive director of global design. “For Cadillac, it gives new meaning to being a patron of the arts.”

The XT5 is the first SUV to use Cadillac’s new model name nomenclature. All new SUVs will be branded “XT,” followed by a numeral designating their position in the model line. The XT5, therefore, is Cadillac’s new mid-size crossover SUV, just as the CT6 is the mid-sized sedan. Even the Escalade, with all its brand equity, is destined to become an XT.
It is built on the company’s new front-drive platform, but further details will have to wait until November. Whether any of the new Cadillacs can achieve the status of the company’s classics, like the 1965 Coupe De Ville as driven by Mad Men’s Don Draper, only time will tell.
